Rugby League in Brisbane

• Posted in Australia / Gap Year / Misc. / Rugby Union • By Caprice

The Rugby League programme has been outstanding since day one. Being in Brisbane, the heart of rugby league in Queensland, opens up opportunities to play and watch some of the best players in the Southern Hemisphere. The West Brisbane Panthers have been welcoming and have made me feel part of the team. The club has two different teams with one competing in the BRL A Grade which comprises the best teams outside the Intrust Super Cup (one division below the NRL) and the other competing in the BRL Premier Grade Competition. The coaches always give you the best opportunity to play in both teams and work very closely with you to improve your game. The standard of players and coaches is high and the club’s facilities are excellent. Training and playing at the Arana leagues club brings big crowds and regular media attention with games streamed live on the club’s website - it even has its own weekly show broadcasted online.  The Panthers also own three other training venues so you will get to see the depth and popularity of rugby league in Australia.

When it comes to watching rugby league there is no better place than Brisbane. The derby between the Brisbane Broncos vs. North Queensland Cowboys attracts close to 45,000 people at Suncorp Stadium. And that's not even a finals round! Then the biggest show on earth, State of Origin, happens every year and attracts hundreds of thousands of passionate rugby league fans from Queensland and New South Wales. If you cannot get a ticket, the next best thing is to watch it at the Caxton Hotel which is packed on Origin night.

Brisbane is the best place to play, watch and emerge yourself in a rugby league culture.
