Sun shining, champagne flowing, emotions running high; Cup Day was definitely a highlight of our Sport Lived adventure so far. After being resigned to what we thought would be a rainy day, Melbourne did what it does best and surprised us with glorious weather at the last minute; an excellent start to the day.
Us girls were dressed to the nines, hair and makeup perfectly intact, whilst the lads impressed us by all scrubbing up nicely too! All present and correct, we set off for Flemington, arriving in plenty of time for the lads to sort out their first bets of the day, and the drinks to start flowing.
Whilst some of our boys were invited to join their South Yarra cricket teammates in the more upmarket part of the racecourse, the rest of us congregated down by the track, in prime position to see the horses go storming past towards the finish line.
Bets were won and lost throughout the day, and going by the boys high spirits, they all seemed to do pretty well. Connor was the lucky winner of the Sport Lived sweepstake, as Almandin came in first to bag the coveted Cup race. The girls had a few cheeky bets too, although nowhere near as extravagant as the boys!
Racing over, we all took advantage of the good weather that had remained (mostly!) all day, and celebrated our wins in style in The Park, before heading back to the city to carry on the celebrations.
A big thank you to Kathy and the Sport Lived team for organising our tickets to the races - we all had an amazing day, and definitely one that will stand out as a highlight of our trip so far.
